I have to say I was completely put off by the Takashi Murakami show at Moca's Geffen. I need to read more and think before I come down either way on his blatant mean streak or ironic commercialism, but both Jean and myself got stomach-aches and felt (as if) we had spent any $$$ on his ridiculously high commercial (NOT fine) art we would have been playing into his "evil empire". To top it off, the dirty pool that downtown LA plays by posting parking signs that are contradictory (I thought I could park from 9-6, only to find I had been towed, thanks to some hidden sign I never saw saying no parking past 4 p.m.). Now I'm going to have to find someone to help me pick up car, towing fee $184, not to count whatever ticket I get.
I'll respect and listen to whatever anyone has to say about Mr. Murakami, but I just think it's beyond sick that he very successfully lures small children in his grotesque empire. I'm finding myself agreeing with Matt Gleason of Coagula, which I never expected. More on this later.
OK - these are pretty good.
(click on the images twice to blow up pretty decently large!)
There's one of Mr. G drinking from my fountain - isn't it amazing that cats love drinking water from everything BUT their waterdish? The first one of Goober's iris right behind the candle wick is pretty freakish, pretty amazing! Two of them have an original watercolor I did in the shot...
I won't leave this post up forever, I really want to focus less on the beauteous beasties and more on art, politics, etc. (soon to come - stuff about the 'P' word vs. the 'N' word, Jon Stewart, Bill Moyers, and Stephen Colbert!)
